Family Camp

Family Camp is an easygoing blend of structure and choice, giving your family a chance to play, relax, discover, learn and share with other families.

We will welcome families to camp on Friday afternoon, giving just enough time to settle in and meet other families at camp before a delicious dinner. The evening will include games, a campfire, and tasty snacks. Late-night programs offer families options to wind down the first night at camp as they choose.

Saturday and Sunday mornings you can participate in a morning reflection session and/or take a refreshing dip in the ocean before enjoying a sumptuous breakfast. The morning and afternoon program sessions will feature a variety of options suitable for a wide age range, including kayaking, archery, farm exploration, and arts and crafts sessions. Younger children will need to be accompanied by their parents to their age-appropriate program options, but older kids and teens are welcome to participate independently or stay with their families during the blocks – the choice is up to your family. If you want to have some free time to nap or hang-out as a family, you can do that too; none of the sessions are mandatory.

After dinner on Saturday and Sunday night, enjoy an active camp-wide game that gets families up and moving in search of victory. End the day on Saturday with a snack and campfire, and on Sunday, a snack and a talent show where you and your children can perform your favourite talents or songs and enjoy being goofy together. Optional late night programming will be offered for parents who want to enjoy a relaxing campfire.

On Monday, take another early ocean dip or attend the optional morning reflective practice. Before packing up your belongings and enjoying lunch, there will be an opportunity to squeeze in one last round of activities to load up on family memories to last you until next summer!

Getting to/From camp

Horseshoe Bay Public Dock

For the Easter and Spring camps, Fircom staff will sign you in by the red roofed hut on the Horseshoe Bay Public Dock. For Summer Family Camp (especially on a hot day), staff will likely sign you in at the west end of the waterfront park, under the trees.

Boat Departures

Exact boat times will be confirmed and sent via email to all registrants 3-4 weeks prior to camp. We estimate families will depart Horseshoe Bay on the Friday between 2 and 3pm, and return to Horseshoe Bay on the Monday before 12 noon.

The water taxi crossing takes approximately 25 minutes but there can be delays with loading, winds, etc.

Sometimes it can take some time to load to boats, so please be patient with us as we get everyone to and from camp safely.

Parking

We highly recommend taking public transit or being dropped off in Horseshoe Bay to avoid the hassle of finding parking. If you need to park, the following lots are available:

• Lions Tiddlycove Parking ($10/day, cash only): This parking lot is a 20 min walk from the Horseshoe Bay Public Dock up under the highway. NOTE: The lot size has been significantly reduced since May 1st, due to falling debris from the overpass above. We expect this will be the case for many months, and thus will fill up very quickly.

• BC Ferries Parking ($20-$25/day): These short-term and long-term parking lots are centrally located in Horseshoe Bay village but can quickly fill up on weekends.

Accommodation

When you register for Family Camp you have the option to select a few different accommodations, depending on which weekend you are attending. Cabins and Sibley Tents are at no additional charge. Our dormitory style accommodation (‘Craigcroft’) costs an additional fee of $75.00 per room ($25/night), and the private rooms in the Cottage cost an additional fee of $150.00/room ($50/night).
