ED Loudspeaker

November 2011

Hi everyone,

Leaves are falling, winter rains are here and everyone has made the adjustment of either heading back to work or school.

As much as I love the summer months, I have always enjoyed the Fall season more as it is a time to slow down the pace, connect with others and prepare for the coming year.

Most importantly it is a time of year to acknowledge those who made Fircom such a success this past summer. There is so much to be thankful for as Fircom is a reminder that we do live in a caring and loving community symbolized by the virtues of the United Church and our wider community.

Who to thank? Where to start?

As Executive Director, I would like to first and foremost thank the United Church of Canada and BC Conference for reinvesting into Camp Fircom not only financially but spiritually.

Believing intuitively, instinctively and at times blindly that Fircom had much promise and potential is something of a rare act in our society today. All of us appreciate the trust, and support the United Church and BC Conference has given Fircom.

I am consistently astonished by the heroic efforts and genuine good will of so many Fircom volunteers who have helped shape and build Fircom over the past year. Thank you to all volunteers, as we would not of made Fircom such as a success this year without your support.

A huge thanks to the Fircom alumni, parents, community groups, construction companies, new rental partners, schools, congregations, Board of Directors, non-profit groups, couples getting married at Fircom, our neighbours, the water taxi companies, visitors, local business support, those who gave financial donations, and the Fircom staff team for all becoming the agent of change while contributing to the special place all love called Fircom. If I have forgotten anyone, thank you too.

Finally I want say a huge thanks to all the kids who have returned or who are just discovering Fircom for the first time. Thank you! This is your camp and we are here to serve you.

Thank you and please come visit us this fall and winter.

Sincerely,

Jeff Willis

Rezoning Consultation

To our Friends, Neighbours and Stakeholders:

The Camp Fircom Society and BC Conference of the United Church would like to inform you that we are in the initial stages of proposing to rezone the ”Ford Property“ of Camp Fircom. In 2008, the Ford Family and the BC Conference of the United Church entered into a land swap agreement that saw the family's historic and pristine 60-acre property come under the stewardship of Camp Fircom.

The Ford property is currently zoned Settlement Residential (SR) allowing for the development of up to 12 residential lots. We intend to Rezone the Ford Property from Residential Subdivision development to a Recreational Service (S3) Zone, consistent with the rest of the Camp Fircom Property. This rezoning will allow us to use the property consistent with the rest of the Camp Facilities and is part of our ongoing youth outreach programming and community engagement in Ministry and Sustainability.

We invite you to Camp Fircom on Saturday October 8th at 3pm to participate in our Open House and to learn more about what we do and why we'd like to rezone this property.

Please download the approximate outlines of the two properties as illustrated in this pdf: Rezoning Aerial
