Summer Camp 2012

Summer camp at Fircom gives kids and adults alike a chance to form an energetic and thriving community, and connect with our caring staff. They develop skills in traditional camp activities like archery, canoeing, campcraft, and arts, but are also given a chance to hone their special interests (such as local cooking or performing arts). Time for reflection and spiritual development is built into each day, and every camper is involved in our commitment to enviornmental stewardship through farming and zero waste practices.

Family Camp Weekend

Arrival: Friday July 20, 2012, 5pm

Fee: $160 adult, $100 7 to 17, FREE 6 and under

Round up the whole family and whisk them away for a weekend of fun at Fircom: silly dances on the field, canoe trips to Halkett Bay, time to look up at the stars. Family camp offers all the famous camp classic programming and free time for you to choose what you would like to do.

Fircom Fame

Arrival: Sunday July 29, 2012, 9am

A blend of a theatrical and traditional camp where all kids get to be a part of a Fame production. Kids will learn about stage and sound production, dance, singing, acting, set design, writing and more. Completely hands on, totally experiential and supported by creative art instructors. Kids will also go canoeing, kayaking, swimming, do woodworking, play wide games, sing by the campfire and more. Parents may attend for the Thursday night grand finale and stay the night if they want.

Mom & Kids

Arrival: Sunday July 29, 2012, 9am

Moms and Kids get to spend quality time together in the beautiful, natural surroundings doing classic camp activities: arts & crafts, drama, hiking, canoeing, swimming, etc. Kids will join in with the FAME session running concurrently while moms take a break and have a mani/pedi session, yoga class, or enjoy the famous Moms Only dinner. Moms get to attend the FAME finale production to cheer on their kids and other campers alike!

The 100 Mile Chef

This four-day ”chef de camp or foodie“ program is for kids wanting to learn about forest edibles, organic farming, cooking, baking, canning and preserving with the professionals. Fircom is proud to launch a traditional summer camp week totally dedicated to making yummy and healthy treats while teaching kids a very necessary life skill. This program lets kids discover the lifecycle of food production from seed to plate to compost in the Fircom farm. Kids will also participate in traditional camp fun like snorkeling, bike riding, hiking, skit night, and more.

Where The Wild Things Go

Arrival: Monday August 13, 2012, 9am
Departure: Friday August 17, 2012, 10am

This is session is for kids wanting high-energy activities and crazy creative arts in traditional summer camp experience. Wild things will get their canoe certification and learn about wilderness pursuits. A polar bear dip in the morning gets the heart beating. A stack of pancakes or a morning glory muffin feeds the beast. Maybe a massive game of Capture the Flag breaks out, a Wild Things rumpus parade gets underway, or cabins head off in a voyageur canoe to explore Gambier on an overnight out-trip. Nights wrap up with songs and stories under the stars, and end tucked into cozy cabins in a deep slumber.

Polaris Youth Leadership

The youth leadership program provides an opportunity for growth and development for people ages 14-17 in an inspiring natural environment. Together, participants will form a connected and intentional community, mentored and supported by experienced staff.

The youth program has two major focuses: camp life and outdoors skills. Youth will receive their canoe certification and master outdoor survival skills like fire building and orienteering. They will also learn about personal and spiritual development, leadership, communication, and conflict resolution. Participants will be immersed in the daily life of camp: helping run programming, co-leading cabin groups, working on environmental initiatives, and having fun. Participants will go on two two-night out trips to explore Gambier and the Howe Sound by canoe. Make friendships and memories that last a lifetime while gaining valuable leadership experience.

This program has been heavily subsidized by the Vera Thompson Legacy Fund. Application deadline: May 1, 2012.

Accommodation

Cabin Duplexes Kids will enjoy their stay in one of our six cabin duplexes. Each duplex sleeps up to 16 kids and two cabin leaders. Campers will be placed in cabin groups based on gender and age. Duplexes are within close proximity to washroom and shower facilities.

Craigcroft This two story lodge is available for Mom & Kids and Family Camp. It has two washrooms, a common area living room, dining room and fireplace. Rooms are generally equipped with one bunk bed and one single bed.

Meals

All campers will enjoy three hearty, fresh meals per day plus two tasty snacks. Food is prepared by Chef extraordinaire, Ana-Luz Cobon, and her team with love. Meals are served family style, from local sources when possible, and include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables from our on-site farm. Please let us know ahead of time if you have any special dietary requirements.

Camperships

We believe that camp accessibility is important for everyone. If you or your child is interested in coming to Fircom, but you are unable to afford our regular camper fees, please contact our office at info@campfircom.bc.ca or 604-662-7756.

We also encourage families to consider making a donation towards our Campership fund when they register. Sending a kid or family to camp is a life-changing gift.
