Leadership

"Fircom is an incredible place to spend three weeks. I gained so
much confidence and independence. It's a really cool program."

Leaders (and one staff member!) at a family camp

Camp Fircom is committed to providing training and experiences which develop leadership qualities in youth and young adults. Our programs are designed to ensure that volunteer leaders have the confidence and ability to provide skilled and sensitive leadership for Fircom's Summer Program. Many high school students fulfill their CAPP and Work Experience graduation requirements by volunteering at Fircom.

This year, we are offering a two-pronged approach to our Youth Program.

First, we are providing an awesome Youth Camp, which will be a great chance to meet new friends, play games, swim, and really get a hands-on feel for camp and the outdoors. What a great way to kick off the summer! All youth, ages 14- 18, are welcome, leaders old and new. So bring your friends and lets have a great old time!

The second prong is our regular annual Leadership Training Program, this is a 'down to brass tacks' approach to learning all the ins and outs of becoming a fantastic and confident leader. Bring your thinking hats, and be prepared to come away with a whole new approach to dealing with people!

To become a Camp Fircom Leader, register for both programs, challenge yourself, and get ready for the experience of a lifetime!

Note: for returning Camp Fircom Leaders, only the refreshing Leadership Training Program is mandatory, although all are encouraged to come to Youth Camp for a great time!

For new Camp Fircom Leaders, both camps are mandatory unless we are provided with a reference of your past leading experience.

For more details and registration, see our programs page.

Leaving on Out Trips

Based on performance, individuals who have completed the Leadership Training Program will have an opportunity to serve as Leaders-In Training (LITs) during the Summer Program. At children's camps, an LIT and an experienced Leader share responsibility for leading a cabin group of eight or nine campers. At Moms and Kids and Family camps, Leaders and LITs supervise and interact with small groups of children during program times.

Leadership orientation and first aid training are held in Vancouver, beginning in April & May. Contact the office for more information about in town training events, and for any other information about our leadership program. We would love to have you join us!
