If I come to camp with a friend, can I stay with them?
If you would like to be in a cabin group with a friend, please mark it down on your application and we will take note of your request when putting together the groups. We try our best to accommodate campers but please limit your requests to one or two friends. Request are easier to accommodate when the campers are similar age and gender.

What sort of activities do we get to do?
Campers get to two or three activities a day and each cabin group rotates so everyone gets the chance to try everything that's offered. Check out a sample schedule of our full week camps.

Do I get any free time?
Yes, there are pockets of free time throughout the day, usually before or after meals. As well, there's a rest hour after lunch.

What is the food like at camp?
The food at Camp Fircom is amazing! Our food is either grown on site at our organic farm, or comes from local sources when available, and is prepared by our in-house chef offering abundant choices of healthy meals and snacks.

Do we do any activities as a whole camp?
Yes, some of the evening programs involve everyone coming together for games, activities, campfires, and songs. Campers will get to play the classic camp wide activities such as capture the flag, counsellor hunt, sardines, man-hunt, stones and more.

What if I don't know how to do the activities?
Camp Fircom follows the challenge by choice policy meaning campers chose their level of participation while being supported by staff. That's why you come to camp! All of our activities are created for ALL levels of participation, and involve full instruction before joining in. Someone will always be there to help you. Parents typically go through "OMG – My Kids Are At Camp Sickness" which is why we encourage parents to send one email per week to their kids at camp.

Do many campers experience homesickness?
Homesickness is a natural reaction when going away to camp, especially for first timers. We keep campers very busy from the moment they arrive at our camp, until the end of their stay. Our cabin leaders are with their groups at all times and ensure to help out with any problems the kids might have.

How old are your staff members and what type of experience do they have?
All staff are a minimum of 18 years of age. In most cases they are university students, school teachers or outdoor education leaders. All staff are trained in First Aid and CPR certification. Many of our staff hold advanced certifications in first aid, expedition leadership, and program instruction.

What is the tuck shop?
The tuck shop is open at specific times during each camper's stay. The campers can purchase camp apparel, including t-shirts, hats, and stickers for a nominal fee. Also being sold this year are homemade baked goods for a small cost. Junk food is not permit at camp.

Should campers bring sleeping bags or blankets?
Campers are required to bring a sleeping bag, and anything else that will make them feel at home.

Can the campers write home and can I send a letter e-mail or parcel?
Campers can send a postcard home but they will no access to a computer during their stay. Parents and family members are encouraged to email their son/daughter (info@campfircom.bc.ca). All emails will be printed and left in the cabin's mailbox.

How do the campers get to camp?
Camp Fircom is located on beautiful Gambier Island, in Howe Sound between Horseshoe Bay and the Sunshine Coast. Campers will be taken to our site by way of water taxi from Horseshoe Bay. The water taxi ride is approximately 25-30 minutes long.

Are there any items that are NOT allowed at camp?
Camp Fircom Society asks that campers DO NOT BRING the following items: Knives, matches, candles, cellular phones, pagers, portable CD and/or Electronic Game systems. It is recommended to leave any items of value (jewelry, clothes that you do not want dirtied) at home. If campers do bring valuables or money to Camp, they will have the choice to sign them into the camp office at the start of the week. They will be locked up and returned to them on the last day.
